I don’t write as many articles as I used to but I feel that the recent week we have watched unfold in our country calls for us to pause and really think through what is going on around us.
Life, especially human life, is precious. It is actually the culmination of all creation. At one point there was an earth, stars, mountains, deserts, oceans, plants and animals… but no humanity. At this point… GOD DIDN’T REST… not yet. He had one more being to create. A special being. One that would be created in His image — in His likeness — and then provided a soul.
This being, created as both male and female, is a creature and a person, a created person. This being was created to glorify God. This being was the pinnacle of creation.
Most of us know the story from here. Temptation, sin, fall, slavery, curse… death. A downward spiral of destruction.
But in this story, I think we too often miss something… LIFE. Although mankind has taken the gift we were given and handed it over to destruction our LIVES are still PRECIOUS to our CREATOR.
Following the first recorded murder (Cain and Abel), God says to Cain, “The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground.”
Have you ever paused to think of this statement? The VOICE of a someone’s BLOOD… it CRIES OUT TO GOD.
Alton Sterling’s blood CRIES out to God. Officer Brent Thomspon’s blood CRIES out to God. Philando Castile’s blood CRIES out to God. Officer Patrick Zamarippa’s blood CRIES out to God.
THEIR BLOOD CRIES OUT TO GOD.
Like Diamond Reynolds as she watches her boyfriend, Philando Castile, slump over… bleed out… and DIE.
In fact, it was her crying in this video that reminded me of Genesis 4 and God’s statement to Cain. In her video SHE CRIES OUT… Please God… Please Jesus… Please.
She cries out in the DARK… in the absence of light.
Like the widows of the officers. Like the mothers of the slain. Like the children who have lost their fathers.
But something else struck me in her video. Its actually at the very beginning. In a scene that immediately grabs the heart, something caught my eye.
His BLOOD was RED.
The BLOOD that cries out to GOD has ONE COLOR.
Alton Sterling’s RED BLOOD cries out to God. Officer Brent Thomspon’s RED BLOOD cries out to God. Philando Castile’s RED BLOOD cries out to God. Officer Patrick Zamarippa’s RED BLOOD cries out to God.
THEIR RED BLOOD CRIES OUT TO GOD
Skin can have different colors…
Ears can have different colors…
Eyes can have different colors…
BUT GOD HEARS ONE CRY…
FROM RED BLOOD.
LIFE IS PRECIOUS
It is bestowed upon mankind in many ways, in different colors, in various shapes, at different times, on different continents.
AND ALL OF IT MATTERS TO GOD.
